# Verifying a File Against a Public MUID

> How to drag a file onto a MUID's public profile to verify its signature

## Overview
Anyone can verify whether a file was signed by a specific Majik Universal ID — no account required. The check runs entirely in your browser using the signer's public keys.

### How It Works

Every MUID exposes two signing public keys: Ed25519 (classical, 128-bit security) and ML-DSA-87 (NIST Category 5 post-quantum). When someone signs a file with their Majik Key, both keys sign the same content hash. The public profile's verification zone uses these published public keys to check the embedded signature — entirely locally, without sending the file to any server.

### Verifying a File

1. **1. Find the Signer's Public Profile**
   *Get the MUID profile URL*
   - If you know the signer's username, go to: https://id.majikah.solutions/id/{username}
   - If you only have their MUID ID, go to: https://id.majikah.solutions/id/{id}
   - Example: https://id.majikah.solutions/id/thezelijah
   - No login is required — the public profile is accessible to everyone.

2. **2. Locate the Verify a Signature Section**
   *Find the drop zone on the profile page*
   - On the profile page, scroll to (or look in the right column on desktop for) the Verify a Signature section.
   - You will see a drop zone with an upload icon.

3. **3. Drop the File**
   *Drag or browse to select the signed file*
   - Drag the signed file onto the drop zone, or click it to browse and select a file from your device.
   - Any file format is supported — PDF, image, audio, video, document, etc. — as long as it was signed with Majik Signature.
   - The file is loaded locally. It is never uploaded to any server.

4. **4. Read the Result**
   *Interpret the verification verdict*
   - Signature Valid ✓ — The file contains an embedded signature that matches this MUID's Ed25519 and ML-DSA-87 public keys and the content has not been modified since signing.
   - Signature Invalid ✗ — The signature does not verify against this MUID's keys, or the file was signed by a different key.
   - The result panel shows the signer fingerprint, whether it matches this MUID, the content hash, the signing timestamp, and the content type.
   - Click Verify another file to reset and check a different file.


> **NOTE:** While you are on the public profile, you can also browse the signer's Recently Signed Content section to see all published SLinks associated with this identity.

### Privacy

The public profile never displays private personal information — only the display name, verification tier, signing public keys, and published SLinks. All signature verification happens locally in your browser using the exposed public keys. The signer's private key material is never involved in verification.
