This guide covers everything you need to start sending post-quantum encrypted messages — whether you want to use Majik Message offline for local encryption right away, or go fully online for real-time chat with your contacts. ### What is Majik Message? Majik Message is a post-quantum secure messaging platform built on NIST-standardized ML-KEM-768 (FIPS-203) encryption combined with AES-256-GCM. It is designed to protect your communications against both present-day threats and future quantum computing attacks. You don't need a phone number or email address to create a cryptographic identity — just a 12-word seed phrase. Majik Message works in two modes: offline local encryption (no internet required) and online real-time chat. You can start with one or both. > **NOTE:** Majik Message is available as a Web App at message.majikah.solutions, a Desktop App (Electron), and a Chrome Extension. All platforms share the same encryption engine and are fully cross-compatible. ### Two Ways to Get Started There are two paths to getting started depending on what you need: Path A – Offline Only is the fastest option. Create a seed phrase account and immediately start encrypting and decrypting messages and files locally, no internet or Majikah account required. Path B – Online + Real-Time Chat requires a few more steps — create a seed phrase account, create a Majikah Account, register your account online, and add contacts. Then you can send and receive real-time encrypted messages and access cloud file storage. > **NOTE:** Two types of accounts in Majik Message: A Seed Phrase Account is your local cryptographic identity — it holds your ML-KEM-768 keypair and is used for all encryption and decryption. A Majikah Account is your online login (email + password) used to access real-time features and cloud storage. You need both for online chat and file storage, but only a seed phrase account for offline use. ### Path A: Start Offline (Fastest — No Internet Required) 1. **Open the App** *Launch Majik Message* - Open Majik Message in your browser at message.majikah.solutions, or launch the desktop app - No sign-in is required for offline use 2. **Create Your First Seed Phrase Account** *Your cryptographic identity* - Go to the Accounts tab (first tab in the top navigation bar) - Click the plus (+) icon in the upper right corner - Enter a display name (e.g., 'My Account') - Set a passphrase to protect your private key at rest - Click the dice icon to generate a new 12-word BIP-39 seed phrase - Write down your seed phrase and store it securely offline — this is the only way to recover your account - Click Create 3. **Encrypt Your First Message** *Send a secure message anywhere* - Go to the Message tab (5th tab in the top navigation bar) - The interface opens in Encrypt mode by default - To create a private note (encrypted only to yourself), skip adding recipients and type your message in the left text box - The encrypted scanner string appears in the right text box automatically - Click Copy to copy to clipboard, or Save as TXT/JSON to download - Share the encrypted text anywhere — email, SMS, notes app — only you can decrypt it 4. **Encrypt Your First File (Optional)** *Seal any file into a .mjkb binary* - Go to the File Vault tab (6th tab in the top navigation bar) - Drop any file onto the input panel or click to browse — 130+ formats supported - Click Encrypt to seal it with ML-KEM-768 + AES-256-GCM - Download the encrypted .mjkb binary — safe to store or share anywhere - To decrypt, switch to Decrypt mode and drop the .mjkb file in 5. **Decrypt a Message** *Read a message encrypted for you* - In the Message tab, click the Mode button to switch to Decrypt mode - Paste the encrypted scanner string into the left text box, or import a .txt / .json file - If you are an authorized recipient, the decrypted message appears on the right instantly - All decryption happens locally on your device — nothing is sent to any server > **NOTE:** That's it for offline use! You can now encrypt and decrypt messages and files privately without any internet connection. To send encrypted messages to others, continue to the Contact setup steps below. To unlock real-time chat and cloud file storage, continue to Path B. ### Path B: Go Online for Real-Time Chat & Cloud Storage 1. **Complete Path A First** *You need a seed phrase account to proceed* - Follow all steps in Path A above to create your seed phrase account - Your seed phrase account is your cryptographic identity for both offline and online messaging 2. **Create a Majikah Account** *Your online login credential* - Go to the Majikah tab (7th tab) or the Chats tab (second tab) - Click Create Account - Enter your email address, password (min. 8 characters with a symbol and number), first name, and last name - Click Create Account - Check your email inbox for a 6-digit OTP and enter it to verify your email - You are now signed in to your Majikah Account 3. **Register Your Seed Phrase Account Online** *Link your crypto identity to the online system* - In the Accounts tab, hover over your seed phrase account - Click the Wi-Fi icon (Register Online button) - Alternatively, go to the Majikah tab → Registered Identities section → click the plus (+) icon and select your account - Your account is now registered and can receive real-time messages - You can register up to 5 seed phrase accounts per Majikah Account 4. **Add Your First Contact** *Get someone's invite key to message them* - Ask a friend to open their Accounts tab, hover over their account, and click the link icon (Share) to copy their invite key - Go to your Contacts tab (third tab) and click the user plus (+) icon - Paste their invite key and click Add Contact - Your friend now appears in your contact directory 5. **Start a Real-Time Conversation** *Send your first encrypted chat message* - Go to the Chats tab - Click the pencil and paper icon (New Message button) - Click Add Recipient and select your contact from the list - Type your message and press Enter or click Send - Your message is encrypted with ML-KEM-768 + AES-256-GCM and delivered instantly - Messages auto-expire after 24 hours for enhanced privacy 6. **Upload Files to Cloud Storage (Optional)** *Store encrypted files in your Majikah vault* - Go to the File Vault tab and click My Files in the upper right corner - Drop files onto the upload zone or click Upload to browse - Each file is encrypted on your device before upload — Majikah servers only ever see the sealed .mjkb binary - Your account includes 500 MB of free permanent cloud storage - You can also upload unlimited temporary files (up to 100 MB each, max 15 days) without using your quota > **NOTE:** Don't forget to share your own invite key with your friends so they can add you to their contacts too. File Vault encrypts any file locally into a portable .mjkb binary using the same post-quantum pipeline as messages — supports 130+ formats, works fully offline, no size limit for local use. My Files is the cloud storage layer of the File Vault — upload encrypted files to your 500 MB Majikah vault, publish them for web access, and manage permanent or auto-expiring temporary files. Persistent Threads are immutable, hash-chain verified message histories for formal communications, contracts, and audit trails — now with rich text Markdown formatting and encrypted file attachments. Multiple Identities let you register up to 5 different seed phrase accounts to keep work, personal, and other contexts fully separated. It is the only way to recover your account on a new device or after a reset. Write it down on paper and store it in a safe place. Never store it digitally in plain text, never share it with anyone, and never enter it on any website other than Majik Message. If you lose your seed phrase, your account and any messages encrypted only to you are permanently unrecoverable. ### Security at a Glance Majik Message uses ML-KEM-768 (FIPS-203) — a NIST-standardized post-quantum key encapsulation mechanism — combined with X25519 and AES-256-GCM for hybrid encryption. Private keys are protected at rest using Argon2id key derivation. The relay server (Majikah) never sees your plaintext messages — it only routes encrypted payloads identified by 2-byte truncated public key hashes. Files uploaded to cloud storage are sealed .mjkb binaries — the server only ever stores the encrypted binary, never the plaintext. Your contact list, social graph, and message contents remain entirely private.
