This doc explains both tracks and how they interact. ### Two status tracks Every invoice in Majik Buwiz carries two independent status values. The business status tracks where the invoice is in the payment and delivery workflow — draft, issued, sent, paid, and so on. The integrity status tracks the cryptographic state of the invoice — whether it has been signed, how many signers have signed, whether it is sealed, and whether it is encrypted. Both statuses are always visible and operate independently of each other. ### Business statuses | Status | Meaning | Editable? | | --- | --- | --- | | Draft | Invoice is being prepared. Not yet issued or signed. | Yes — full edit access | | Issued | Invoice has been finalized and issued. Signing triggers this. | Limited — no structural changes | | Sent | Invoice has been delivered to the recipient. | No | | Viewed | Recipient has opened the invoice. | No | | Partial | A partial payment has been recorded. | No | | Paid | Invoice has been fully settled. | No | | Overdue | Due date has passed without full payment. | No | | Disputed | Invoice has an active dispute raised. | No | | Void | Invoice has been cancelled. Permanently terminal. | No | *Caption: The lifecycle status of an invoice through the payment workflow.* ### Integrity statuses | Status | Meaning | | --- | --- | | Unsigned | Invoice has been created but no signatures have been attached yet. | | Partially Signed | At least one signature exists, but not all expected signers on the allowlist have signed. | | Fully Signed | All expected signers have signed. Invoice is not yet sealed. | | Sealed | Invoice is permanently locked. No further signatures or modifications are permitted. The seal hash covers all signatures. | | Invalid | Structural or cryptographic verification failed. The invoice may be corrupted or tampered with. | *Caption: The cryptographic signing and sealing state of an invoice.* > **NOTE:** Encrypted invoices show an additional (Encrypted) qualifier alongside their integrity status — for example Sealed (Encrypted) or Fully Signed (Encrypted). An encrypted invoice whose payload has not been decrypted in the current session is shown as Locked. You must unlock your Majik Key and decrypt the invoice to view its full contents. ### How signing affects business status When you sign an invoice, Majik Buwiz automatically transitions its business status from Draft to Issued. This is the primary lifecycle trigger — an unsigned invoice remains a draft regardless of how complete its content is. Signing is the act of finalizing and issuing the invoice. After signing, structural changes to line items, taxes, parties, and dates are no longer permitted — only lifecycle mutations (marking sent, recording payment, voiding) are allowed without re-issuing. ### Reissuing an invoice If you need to make structural changes to a signed invoice — changing a line item, correcting a tax rate, updating the recipient — you must reissue it. Reissuing clears all existing signatures, recomputes the content hash from the updated financial data, and returns the invoice to an unsigned state ready to be re-signed. The invoice retains its ID and creation timestamp. Reissuing is the correct path for amendments; it is not the same as duplicating. ### Voiding an invoice Voiding permanently cancels an invoice. A voided invoice cannot be edited, re-signed, or transitioned to any other business status — void is a terminal state. If you need to issue a corrected version after voiding, duplicate the voided invoice and issue a new one. Alternatively, use a credit note invoice type to formally reverse the original. ### Invoice types | Type | Use case | | --- | --- | | Commercial | Standard B2B invoice — the default for most use cases | | Proforma | Pre-invoice estimate — not a legal document | | Credit | Credit note / reversal of a previously issued invoice | | Debit | Debit note — additional charge on an existing transaction | | Tax | Tax accounting invoice — VAT or GST invoice | | Government | Government or public procurement invoice | | Intercompany | Internal transfer between related entities | | Project | Project accounting — milestone or phase billing | | Recurring | Subscription or periodic billing | | Forensic | Flagged invoice for audit or investigation | | Environmental | Social and environmental accounting | *Caption: All invoice types available in Majik Buwiz.* > **NOTE:** Invoices can be duplicated at any time. A duplicate is always created as a new unsigned draft. The invoice number is automatically incremented from the original. Duplicating is useful for recurring invoices or for creating a corrected version after voiding.
